Volume I: 364 pages, 2 pp. and 4 pp. / Volume II: 348 pages, 2 pp. Volume I with Frontispiece by Clark & Pine, including the folded map. Volume II with the identical folded map. Original Hardcover. Beautiful calf volumes, uniformly bound with subtle blindstamping on all four boards and the original, gilted spinelabels. Professionally repaired spines. Excellent condition with only minor signs of external wear. Provenances: 1. First owner of this wonderful set was 'Dr. John Browne D.D.' (1687-1764) Master of University College, Oxford who also served as Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University and bequeathed his library to the Master of University College and his successors. / 2. One of these successors was possibly a D. D. G. Gibbs, whose name we also find in the copy / 3. Last important owner was the british bibliographer Graham Pollard with Pollard's bookplate 'Liber Bibliothecae Graham Pollard' on the first pastedown of Vol I. Absolutely desirable example of this rare book with an excellent provenance history.
